Product Description

One of the rareest 50's Lucite purses is this shell design. The shells are actually embedded inside the very thick, very clear Lucite lid, not sitting on top. They really look like they are floating under water. In addition, the handle is so unusual, tied into a twisted knot. However, did they do that? And, of course, we all love those great bubble feet.

This purse is featured in the book " Carry Me " by Janice Berkson, but it is not attributed to a designer. I've never seen the manufacturer on this design identified anywhere. The satiny finish on the white Lucite body does look like Charles Kahn, but your guess is as good as mine.

(If you don't have the Berkson's book, it is a must! So many pictures of Lucite purse's you've probably never seen before and never will again.)

This bag measures 8-1/2 " wide across the bottom, 4-1/4" tall (without the handle) x 4" deep. The lid has a small smooth Lucite piece or rod to easily open the lid, but this bag was obviously designed without a latch or clasp. The lid just fits into the body perfectly.

So Near Mint! There are light scratches, mainly on the top of the clear handle. No cracks, crazing, warping, nicks, clouding, yellowing, or odors. The bubble feet have no damage. All hardware still looks good and works perfectly. No damages to the shells. (Inside the thick Lucite that's virtually impossible.)

See if you can spot the two teeny weeny baby seahorses in the decorations. I think they are real.
