This Lucite purse has a cloth tag inside that says " Milgrim." You may sometimes see bags with Milgrim tags described as being made by Milgrim, but they were not. Milgrim was a high-end ladies store in Manhattan and several other cities throughout the United States for much of the 20th century that, obviously, sold these purses.
This may be an unsigned Wilardy design. You can see a white one nearly identical in design for sale here on our website that is, in fact, signed Wilardy on the hinge. However, besides the color, we notice some other differences in this tortoise colored one: The size and shape of the mirror is different. The measurements are close, but not identical. And the bottom part of the clasp on the white one is covered with white Lucite. This tortoise bag was not made with Lucite covering the metal. Therefore, we suspect this may have been made by Gilli, a company that also made the double-decker Luicte bags.
Measures 7-1/4" wide x 4" tall (without handle) x 4" deep. Please check all the photos. The Lucite color is very rich and shiny.
Absolutely excellent condition with some scuffing on the bottom and some wear on the mirror backing. No cracks, chips, or warping. No clouding or odors. The metal all looks great and both clasps work perfectly.
There are no cracks in the mirror; it's just picking up all kinds of reflections..
