A Certain Style, The Art of the Plastic Handbag, 1949-59 by Robert Gottlieb and Frank Maresca is long out of print and extremely hard to find. This is a first (and only) edition, published in 1988. If you don't have this collectors' book yet, here's your chance.
This book tells the history of the lucite purse and the fascinating story of how Robert Gottlieb, former editor of 'The New Yorker' magazine, accidentally started his incredible collection. But the best part is the fabulous purse photos, 92 full-color, full-page photos. This is a hardcover book with dust jacket and measures 10-1/4" x 9-1/2". There is no price guide which would be outdated and price guides in purse books, even recent publications, are often extremely inaccurate and therefore of little value.
Condition: Some wear on the dust cover/jacket with a small 1/2" tear right on the top back edge as shown. Also, a smaller tear on the bottom corner and some price tag glue remainder. But the beautiful color pages inside have no folded corners, dirt, stains, writing, or marks.
Please see photos for jacket condition and some sample photos form the more than 86 fantastic purses pictured, each one more amazing than the last.
Handsomely discounted simply due to some jacket wear.
